The word consists of two etyma, “e” meaning “out“, and “mit” meaning “send“. By combining them together, we can easily deduce the meaning of the word “emit“, which is “send out“. And it is very close to the definition in the Oxford Dictionary, “to send out something such as light, heat, sound, gas, etc.”
